‘Where did my bicycle go?’ is not what you’ll be saying when you leave Bicycle Thieves. Instead what you’ll find yourself saying is ‘Where did my breakfast ramen go?’ because you wolfed it down so fast you forgot you ate it. This is what happened to me when I visited. The menu at Bicycle Thieves is brunch reinvented and is an absolute gem in Northcote.
They do an exceptional coffee.
And cold pressed juices. This was pineapple.
The breakfast ramen was insanely good. The broth was super flavourful, the grilled kaiserfleisch (like bacon) was cut thick and had a crisp grilled top and the shitake added a depth of flavour. It had silken tofu in there which I loved and a chilli pangritata with a crunchy panko crumb. Lastly a perfectly soft-boiled egg, loads of spring onions (yes please) and a generous amount of slurpy ramen noodles. I absolutely loved this dish.
The pastrami bahn mi was an interesting dish. It was a toasted ciabatta bun with thinly sliced grilled pastrami and then all things bahn mi. It had a good amount of pate, mayo and hoi sin with cucumber, carrot, pickled daikon, hot red chillies and lots of fresh coriander. It was delicious.
More of that good coffee.
If you’re looking for a brunch spot to inspire you and leave you smiling, this is one to watch.
I heart Bicycle Thieves!
