Chinacy

Chinancy recently opened on chapel street and this modern Chinese restaurant is the talk of the town. It’s not your usual Chinese food, this is refined, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. It’s the kind of place where you can sit down and have a full course meal or pop in for some cocktails and get a quick bite to eat.

Chinacy - rose marTEAni

We started with some cocktails, the rose marTEAni was my fave with oriental spiced gin, lime and rose tea, garnished with rosemary.

Chinacy - char siew bao

The char siew hand buns would be top of my list if I popped in for a quick bite. Drink in one hand, bao in the other. The bun was soft and fluffy and was filled with sweet bbq pork slices, cucumber, chilli sauce and lots of fresh coriander and spring onion.

Chinacy - kingfish

The Australian Hiramasa kingfish was raw and cut like sashimi. It had a gorgeous fresh pickled topping of spring onions, tamari and daikon.

Chinacy - chicken and scallop dumplings

The chicken and scallop dumplings were flavoursome and the skin was super thin. It sat in a gingered black vinegar dressing which went perfectly.

Chinacy - crispy calamari

The crispy salted duck egg calamari melted in your mouth and had a light coating. It was topped with red chilli, lemon and crispy fried curry leaf.

Chinacy - drunken mushrooms

Loved the drunken mushrooms. We’d been drinking, the mushrooms had been drinking, we were all having a great time. The drunken mushrooms were a combination of shitake, enoki and king brown mushrooms cooked in shoaxing wine and garlic chives. So good, full of flavour.

The pan-fried salmon was cooked to perfection with a crispy skin and was sitting on a bed of kale. It had a peanut, coriander and yuzu pesto on top which was a top combination.

Chinacy - porterhouse steak

The char-grilled cape grimm porterhouse steak was nice and pink in the centre and I loved that they cut it into easy-to-eat slices. It had an intense sauce with finely shredded daikon and chives on top.

The vegetarian fried rice was a lovely side dish.

Chinacy - osmanthus and jasmine poached pear

We ended with the osmanthus and jasmine poached pear which was soft and had a lovely tea flavour. It was served with a zingy orange granita and a crispy sesame tuile.

I heart Chinacy!
