Cucinetta is a cosy little space in South Yarra where they serve traditional Italian food with seasonal produce and change their menu every week.
I don’t know many places where they whip up a new menu each week but it really makes you feel like you’re eating at a friend or relatives house for dinner, it’s warm and inviting.
They have these gigantic wine glasses which I love so much. It was literally the size of my face.
We started with the fresh burrata cheese which was super creamy and went well with the pepeperonata (cooked capsicum) and super thin crispy toasts.
The pan roasted octopus was lovely and tender and was served on a bed of potato vellutata which was like a luscious velvety puree.
The homemade gnocchi alla ‘Norma’ was delightful. The soft pillowy homemade gnocci was cooked in a napoli sauce with eggplant.
The pan roasted lamb rump was pink in the middle and served with braised red cabbage and a tasty wine jus. Smiple and elegant.
For dessert we were served a pot plant, well it looked like a pot plant. In fact is was a housemade tiramisu served in a little terracotta pot with a mint leaf sprouting from the chocolate soil. This was so cute and delicious too.
Every now and then Cucinetta have a parmesan wheel night so when it’s on you need to book asap. They do a cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper) pasta and finish is off in the actual parmesan wheel. It’s fun to watch and it is insanely delicious.
You can add truffle paste to make it extra yum. So good.
A great little spot for authentic Italian food. The space is super small so making a reservation is a good idea.
I heart Cucinetta!
