Dawson is a beautiful cafe in Kew with a large space, lots of greenery and great food. They have a good variety of dishes on the menu from saganaki to pizzas to pork belly, not to mention Pina colada hotcakes. Everyone will be able to find something they love and they are open all day from brekky through to dinner.
They do a lovely latte.
We started with mac and cheese croquettes…obviously. They had a great crunch and the macaroni was cooked well, not too soft and mushy.
We followed this cheesey side with some more cheese. The pan seared saganaki was amazing. It had grilled peach pieces and a sweet orange blossom honey over the top. This was an extraordinary combo of flavours. Loved it.
I love shoestring fries and these were good with a pot of herb aioli.
They have a large selection of entrees and if you can’t decide you can get the tasting plate which has a little bit of everything; wild mushroom and leek arancini, salt and schezuan pepper calamari, mount zero olives, beetroot labne, prosciutto, bresola.
They have a few pizzas on the menu. We tried the bresola pizza which had a tasty base with mozzarella, a generous amount of bresaola (cured beef), torn pieces of fior di latte, mushroom, basil and pecorino.
The Otway pork belly salad had chunks of pork belly in a sticky sweet glaze with a fresh salad of cucumber, carrot, spring onion, apple and radish with deep-fried crispy shallots and salted peanuts on top with nam jim dressing.
Do you like Pina Coladas? If your answer is yes then you will adore these Pina Colada soft and fluffy hotcakes with grilled pineapple, pineapple curd, creamy coconut ice cream, white chocolate ganache, passionfruit and coconut crumble. Yum! Take me to paradise.
I heart Dawson!
