When you walk into a restaurant and see a big beast of a wood-fire oven you can't help but want to try the pizza. Alongside a range of Italian dishes, Ecco have a long list of pizza on the menu including gluten-free bases and vegan options. We tried a range of pizzas and it’s hard to decide which one I like most. All of them, I like all of them.
We started with some entrees. The calamari fritti was dusted with semolina and fried just so the calamari melted in your mouth. It was topped with some thinly sliced green chilli and a creamy, zesty lime aioli.
The Spring Bay mussels were cooked beautifully in a Napoli sauce with roasted fennel and baby spinach. Good flavours.
Caprese tradizionale is always a winner. It’s simple but magnificent. Slices of buffalo mozzarella, fresh tomato, basil, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil with a touch of oregano.
I ordered the ‘Ecco’ pizza because it’s the name of the restaurant but also because potato. It had rosemary roasted potatoes on top that had crispy edges and were fluffy in the middle. There were big pieces of pancetta and fior di latte and some fresh basil. Very tasty.
The parma had more classic Italian flavours which was lovely with san Marzano tomato, fior di latte, prosciutto di parma, shaved parmesan, fresh rocket and basil with added buffalo mozzarella.
The gamberi had lots of little prawns on top with zucchini, cherry tomatoes, rocket.
The tartufata was a popular one because it had truffle. It was a good choice, it was delish. It had a creamy base with porcini mushrooms, Italian sausage, fior di latte, parsley and added prosciutto for the meat lovers.
For dessert we started with an affogato. We poured the coffee over the vanilla ice-cream and added the shot of Frangelico.
The vanilla bean pannacotta was so good. It was super smooth and creamy with berry compote poured over the top.
When you’re at an Italian restaurant and the menu has ‘traditional Italian tiramisu’ you should probably try it. The one at Ecco was amazing. The coffee flavour was prominent and the cream to sponge ratio was on point. Loved it.
Since the pizzas were so tasty we decided to end on the Nutella pizza. Simply a woodfired pizza with Nutella, strawberries and icing sugar. Delicious.
I heart Ecco!
