Gontran Cherrier is a reknowned for his famous Parisian boulangeries around the world. Lucky for us Melbournians, he opened up a store in Collingwood a few weeks ago and there is good reason for it to be your new favourite go-to for all things croissants, breads, and pastry. He does the classics well like your plain croissant or French bagette, but he also has a creative twist on things like black squid ink buns, curry cereal bagettes and red miso and maple rye loaves. Yum! Whether you love the classics or want to try something new, you will definitely find lots of delicious things at Gontrans new French bakery.
The first thing we tried was of course the classic croissant. And yes it was all kinds of amazing!
The koign amann had millions of crisp layers and was covered in a lovely sweet glaze. This was one of my faves.
The chocolate croissant was so good. Those layers.
This truffled cauliflower and Gruyere béchamel toastie hit the spot. Good comfort food.
The French bagattes were perfect. They had a crusty outer and soft and chewy middle. Delicious!!
They also had a cauliflower salad with parmesan crisps which was tasty.
Loved the miso bread.
Avocado and miso on rye bread was a good combo.
They do a range of bread buns with flavours like squid ink, paprika, molasses, curry etc.
They also have a range of sweet pastries. This apple and lavender crumble tart was yummy.
And the chocolate and hazelnut eclairs were pretty amazing with a hint of orange. So good.
The yuzu and sesame tarts were cute. Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit so it was similar to a lemon tart.
Yes let them eat croissants!
This Frenchman knows his stuff. Gontran Cherrier's artisan boulanger is full of all things heavenly, so do yourself a favour and get down there stat.
I heart Gontran Cherrier!
