Guy Grossi is renowned for exceptional Italian food and Grossi Grill ‘downstairs’ is a good reflection of his work with flavoursome and down to earth food. Grossi’s food has a level of honesty where he keeps true to the produce while enhancing the flavours with the right simple ingredients to compliment. It was a delicious night indeed.
Lovely fresh bread with some quality Italian olive oil is a good way to start a meal.
The scallops were large in size and served with a brown butter sauce topped with pangrattato (like a crispy baked breadcrumb).
The calamari was soft and tender with a beautiful light char on the outside which gave it a bit of a crisp outer. It was served with some salted greens and black squid ink. Simple and delicious.
The palle del nonno pork sausages were small and packed with flavour. It had a good amount of fat to make them juicy and was served with thin slices of fresh fennel.
The pici was long tubular pasta kinda of like spaghett but thicker. The handmade pasta was amazing and the wild boar ragu was thick and comforting. This dish was some next level spag bol.
They have a variety of steaks, we tried the O'Connor flat iron Angus which was cooked to perfection. It was served with all the classic flavours you want with a good piece of steak - mustard, horseradish and a charred lemon half.
The garlic rosemary potatoes were delish. Crunchy on the outside and hot and fluffy in the middle. Who doesn’t love a bowl of roast taters.
Our dessert was one very decadent high class chocolate bar. It had a velvety rich chocolate ganache mousse with a layer of sticky caramel with roasted hazelnuts. The milk ice cream was subtle and icy almost like a sorbet which complimented the indulgent chocolate bar.
The staff were very welcoming and they had a lovely range of wines. A great place for a tasty Italian feed.
I heart Grossi Grill!
