Half acre is in South Melbourne but when you step inside you’re transported to a place further away, in the country perhaps. It has a beautiful rustic but elegant atmosphere and the food mimics that vibe.
We started with some wine and it was divine.
The za’atar wood-fired bread is definitely a must. Flat bread with charred edges topped with za’atar spices and served with smoked butter. You can really taste the smokiness in the butter. Oh how wonderful just simply bread and butter can be.
My memories of cauliflower as a kid was always meh, but these days it is really something else. The roasted cauliflower at Half Acre had a gorgeous char to it and was topped with creamy tahini, dukkah and fresh parsley. It was absolutely delicious.
Wood roasted lamb means melt in your mouth tenderness. The lamb was served with a creamy labne, smoked eggplant which was nice and soft with fresh mint. Great combination of flavours.
We had the leaf salad with lavender dressing which was interesting, lovely and fragrant.
I heart Half Acre!
