If you’re looking for a great place for coffee and brunch in Richmond, Holla has you covered. The food is creative, colourful and most importantly it makes for a great Instagram photo (just kidding) what’s most important is that everything we ate was absolutely delicious. And it was.
When you walk in there are lots of big hanging plants around which brighten the room.
They are a specialty coffee roaster so you just know the coffee’s gonna be good. And it was. I just got a latte, but you can see which single origin blends they have for that day on the blackboard or just ask your waiter.
They do milkshakes, this was the vanilla. They also do boozy shakes in case you want to take that shake to the next level.
The soft-shell crab was lightly battered and deep fried. Which come to think of it is the only way I’ve ever eaten soft-shell crab. I guess it’s the best way. It was delicious and had a creamy hollandaise sauce, smashed avo and fluffy crumpets underneath. It was very filling and super delicious.
The eggs were cooked perfectly and the yolk just oozed all over the crumpet like a sauce. Some major yolk porn happening.
For something sweet we had the croffle. What the hell is a croffle I hear you say, well it’s a cross between a croissant and a waffle and yes it is all kinds of yum. The pastry has the buttery layers of a croissant but the playful indented squares of a waffle. And actually on top of that it’s almost like an ice-cream sandwich too because it’s filled with a raspberry and pistachio parfait. Would that make it a crofflewich? Okay too far. So the raspberry parfait was creamy with a bit of tartness from the raspberry and had bits of pistachio throughout. It also had a pistachio crumb on top and around the plate. There were many textures of berries: the fresh berries were like pops of freshness, the strawberry curd was an intense hit of strawberry and then little pools of the rose syrup was subtle but brought the dish to life. So yum.
They also hire out the space for functions which is a great idea because it’s a gorgeous space. And they do bottomless brunch which is 2 hours of bottomless wine, prosecco, mimosas, espresso martinis, beer, aperol spritz plus any meal from the menu for $59. This is a good idea if you’re catching up with friends, such a good way to spend an afternoon.
I heart Holla!
