Kurimu Japanese chou pastries filled with custard are all the rage at the moment. With freshly baked pastries and silky-smooth custard I can understand why. They opened their first Australian store at Melbourne Central a few days ago and fortunately I work near Melbourne Central so when 3 o’clock hits and I’m craving a sweet snack, I know where I’ll be heading.
The vanilla custard is my fave. It’s the classic. The chou has a crisp exterior and is filled with a generous amount of vanilla custard. They look big but both the pastry and custard melt in your mouth so it’s easy to eat with its light texture.
The oozy custard is encased in a stick of choux so it’s easy to hold and eat on the go.
The strawberry custard reminds me of fond memories of danone snack pack with that sweet custardy strawberry flavour. The sweet filled choux pastry gives it éclair vibes so éclair lovers will be happy these exist.
Oozy strawberry custard.
Kurimu just opened a few days ago so expect lines out the door for a while but it’s worth the wait for a tasty treat.
I heart Kurimu!
