When you have a hankering for gelato, Lygon street is the place to go. Lavezzi Gelateria opened only 12 weeks ago and they are making an entrance. Quality ingredients is what they are all about and you can taste it.
They source ingredients straight from the land of gelato which helps them create the traditional flavours authentically. To give you an idea, the lemons for their lemon sorbet are grown in Sorento in northern Italy in the volcanic soil near Mount Vesuvius and their hazelnuts are from Abla, you know, that place where Nutella comes from and then they roast them in-house. A whole lot of love and passion goes into this artisan gelato and it certainly makes them stand out from the crowd.
Not only do they make great gelato they also have big hearts. For mother’s day and the month of May they have paired up with The Royal Women’s hospital and are donating proceeds from a special selection of desserts to the miracle mums appeal which supports research for mums and bubs. The special desserts to support the cause are the chocolate berry cannoli, the white choc and mixed berries baci and gelato flavours fig and honey sorbet and raspberry pannacotta.
The cannoli was not a regular cannoli, it was filled with semi-freddo so it was like a cold gelato cannoli. This was the hazelnut one but they had a few different flavours to choose from. The shell was still crispy and was filled with that semi-frozen filling sprinkled with crushed nuts.
Baci is a well-known chocolate with a hazelnut in the centre. This gelato version is even better it’s filled with milk chocolate, dark chocolate and hazelnut gelato. They also have a giant version of the gelato baci which is like the cake version. Super cute.
Who doesn’t love an icecream cake? Or gelato cake should I say. They have a range of gelato cakes on offer for those special occasions.
