This ramen bar down bligh street is one of my faves. Mensousai Mugen do noodles the way I remember them in Japan. They are fresh and handmade and have a good chew to them. These bad boys are perfect for slurping. You can get the small serve of 200g or for an extra $2 get the large serve of noodles 350g. I recommend the later because the noodles are king.
The gyozas are a good starter the skin is thin and they come out on a hot iron pan. The filling has pork and cabbage and the skin is so soft with those crispy pan seared edges. There are seven gyozas in a serve so maybe good to share.
Tsukemen or as people refer to it as the dipping noodles were my fave when I was in Japan and Mensousai do them well. The thick handmade noodles have a great texture and the soup is full of flavour. With tsukemen the broth is usually a little more intense than regular ramen and you get a little bowl of soup on the side with a plate of your bare noodles and other things like pork, bamboo shoots and seaweed, I like to add an egg. You pick up some noodles with your chopsticks and dip them into the soup before eating them. The soup coats the noodles before you eat it so it’s covered in flavour.
The noodles have such a good texture and it holds the sauce well.
The ramen is delicious too. I had the wafu ramen which has the same noodles in a ramen soy broth with pork, seaweed, bamboo shoots and half an egg. This was delicious I ate the whole bowl and sipped all of the soup. That’s the best way to tell if you dig it.
I heart Mensousai Mugan!
