Movida Aqui is a slightly more casual version of Movida/Movida next door, with a larger, lighter space and outdoor terrace. When I came back from Spain all I wanted to eat was tapas so this was the next best thing. It’s a great place to order a bunch of tapas (smaller dishes) and some larger dishes to share, with a bottle of Spanish wine of course. The food is amazing and it’s great to get your tapas on, even if just for the day or night.
Fresh bread, olive oil and sea salt to start.
The ‘anchoa’ was a long wafer-thin crouton with a hand-filleted artisan anchovy on top and a quenelle of smoked tomato sorbet. This little delicate bite was all kinds of wonderful.
The ‘bocadillo de calamares’ was delish. It was lightly battered, deep-fried calamari dusted with salt and pepper and herbs with basque guindilla (capsicum sauce) and mayonnaise in a mini ciabatta bun.
The bomba is a popular Spanish tapas dish and for obvious reasons. They are bite sized pieces with a crispy golden crumbed outside, smooth potato filling and minced chorizo in the middle. It’s topped with a spicy capsicum sauce and mayo. So yum.
The slow-braised beef cheek melted in your mouth. The meat was so tender and teared away easily with a fork. It was braised in Pedro Ximenez which is a Spanish wine like a sweet sherry which complimented that beefy flavour. It was served on a bed of silky smooth cauliflower puree which was lovely.
The churros were served with traditional drinking chocolate (like a thick hot chocolate) to dip the churros in.
The crema catalana is a classic Spanish dessert, the baked custard was super smooth and eggy with a hint of citrus and cinnamon caramel sauce over the top.
I heart Movida Aqui!
