Oppen is a new Scandinavian brunch spot in Windsor that opened only a couple of month ago. It’s down Maddock street just near Windsor station so it’s easy to get to and the beautiful food and décor makes this restaurant a place you want to keep coming back to. Their dishes are creative and mostly healthy. I hadn’t had Scandinavian food before but after eating here Scandi brunch gets a tick from me.
They do a really good coffee so it you’re looking for a new coffee hang this is a goodie.
Their open sandwiches are popular, a slice of rye with various toppings. We had the heirloom tomatoes and the rare roast beef. If you want to try a few of them they do a trio board where you can choose three open sandwiches with a side. The heirloom tomatoes were fresh and super tasty with creamy herb labneh, thai basil, olive crumb and thin crunchy rye crisps. The flavours went so well together.
The rare roast beef had that nice pink colour in the middle and was sliced thin. The spicy béarnaise complemented the beef as did the pickled cucumber and crispy lightly battered fried onion and peppery watercress on top. The open sandwiches have well thought out flavour combos which makes it exciting to eat.
The hot smoked salmon melted in your mouth. There was some charred asparagus and a salad of wild garlic, fennel, thinly sliced snow peas and watercress with dry rye crumble and a creamy mustard sauce. This dish was fresh and healthy but super tasty. Yum.
We ended on the carrot and chia pudding for dessert. It sounded unusual so we had to try it and I’m glad we did. The sweetness of the carrots was lovely without being too sweet and they had candied carrot on top. The shaved coconut, cubes of pineapple and lime jelly gave it a tropical feel. The pot of ginger and coriander sauce was creamy and added a freshness. It sounds weird but it was actually so delicious.
I heart Oppen!
