Pembroke Bar & Kitchen have started doing brunch which is great news for Surrey Hills. The menu is interesting and has inner city vibes. It’s still the casual wine bar at heart but now you can visit during the day for a brunchy style feed.
The lobster benedict is one of their most popular brunch dishes and there’s no question why. Two poached eggs on a slice of light rye with an indulgent roast lobster hollandaise poured over the top with big chunks of juicy lobster. A samphire nori dust was sprinkled over the top which added an umami bitterness which balanced out the richness.
The confit duck matcha waffle was my fave. The matcha flavour in the waffle was subtle but had a good flavour. The mustard maple complimented the duck with the fresh Asian herbs and the soft bitterness of the waffle helped along the savoury flavours. It sounded interesting on the menu and it delivered on flavour.
The brioche French toast had a buttery golden fried flavour which reminded me of a doughnut. It was served with strawberries in different ways. A scoop of wild strawberry ice cream, a sweet strawberry curd, fresh tart strawberries and crisp freeze-dried ones that crumble in your mouth. The vanilla mascarpone Chantilly added a creamy element that brought the flavours together.
