Penta - Elsterwick
Penta - Elsterwick

When I think of brunch in Elsternwick, Penta comes to mind. It’s everything you want for brunch and more. It’s hard to decide what to eat because when you’re deciding, you can’t help but notice the colourful, eye-catching dishes being served to the tables around you, every person rife with food envy. But it’s also a place where everything is amazing so you can’t really go wrong. They have heaps of options ranging from healthy to indulgent but even the healthy stuff is uber delish! It’s run by the same folk as Tinker and Bentwood so expect similar fare which is bright, wholesome and delicious.

Penta do a great smoothie but be warned they can be super filling too. You could even get the smoothie as a dessert if you  get a sweet one like this. We had the golden bliss smoothie which was mango, coconut milk, yoghurt and honey.

Penta - breakfast bowl
Penta - breakfast bowl

The breakfast bowl is full of amazing flavours and textures. I order this to be healthy but there is so much yum in this bowl. It’s served warm and has quinoa, avocado, kale and cherry tomatoes with a creamy smoked yoghurt, a dukkah poached egg and crispy pita chips. The salad has a lovely texture and big pieces of dreamy halloumi on top. Then you cut open that poachie and the yolk acts as a sauce. It’s delicious.

Penta - chilli scramble

The chilli scrambled eggs are soft and delicious and live up to their name of being chilli. They have a good whack of chilli with smoky bacon and roasted cherry tomatoes. It had an Asian feel with the fresh herbs of coriander, Vietnamese mint and fried shallots. The egg was sitting on a piece of sourdough and we added the rosti too. The potato rosti was a brick of shredded and fried potato goodness. Great hangover cure btw.

Penta - okinomiyaki fritters

The okonomiyaki was tasty. They were a stack of cabbage, kale and carrot Japanese fritters topped with spring onions, pickled ginger, a poached egg, kewpie mayo, hoisin sauce and bacon. An okonomiyaki inspired brunch dish, genius.

Penta - Benedict
Penta - Benedict

The Penta benedict has got to be one of my favourite benedicts, and I like me a benedict. The exciting combination of flavor compliments each other perfectly without taking away the resemblance of the classic benny. The sweet potato waffles have a light crunch on the outside and are fluffy in the middle. They are topped with slow braised beef cheek and peppery watercress. The eggs are poached perfectly and are covered with a smooth spicy jalepeno hollandaise. You can add some mushrooms if you like which are big and roasted. This is a really indulgent dish and I feel happy every time I eat it.

Penta - nutella panna cotta
Penta - nutella panna cotta

The Nutella panna cotta is smooth and silky with a wobble that will make you smile. It’s got a great consistency, it’s dense enough to have some substance but when you eat it, it’s super light. The chocolate flavor is rich, nutellery and magnificent. The panna cotta was beautifully decorated with delicious adornments. There was the nut butter banana sushi which was banana slices covered in nut butter and rolled in a mix of seeds. It really looks like sushi, so cute. There was also fresh strawberries, pomegranate molasses, torched marshmallows (with that melted char flavor yummm) and a crunchy honey joy crumb. It’s pretty light so if you’re thinking of ordering this to share in addition to your savoury meal, I support your decision.

So much deliciousness. Put it on the list and get there asap.

I heart Penta!
