Piccolino has had a revamp with a brand spanking new woodfire oven and a new spring menu. So now is the perfect time for apertivo!
Apertivo is like happy hour but with food as well. Piccolino is doing a share plate of food (chef’s selection) and a beer or TAP wine for $15 or paired with an aperol spritz for an extra $5 which is really good value.
We started with the antipasto misto which is like a platter of little Italian tapas including procuitto, cheeses, marinated capsicums, olives, caramalised onions and a couple of starters.
How beautiful and plump are these olives. Swoon.
Torta al testo is a popular dish from Perugia. It’s a unique homemade bread filled with quality mozzarella and prosciutto. Next level ham and cheesy.
They say it’s Rome’s renowned street food, suppli della settimana, they’re like rice croquettes. The flavours change but we had the lemon ones which were lovely.
All of their pasta is handmade and you can taste it. We had the tagliatelle with Bolognese which was tasty.
The gnocchi was like fluffy flavoursome pillows of goodness. They came in a creamy truffled mushroom sauce and it was divine.
With the upgrade came the big new wood-fire oven, and boy it makes a difference. We had the margarita which was wonderful and it had a generous amount of mozzarella and basil which made us happy campers.
I heart Piccolino!
