Smith Street Alimentari is like a garden of food delights, they have deli sandwiches, freshly baked cakes and pastries displayed abundantly across the counter. The walls are shelved with Italian delicatessen ingredients for sale, and there are colourful salads and rotisserie meats to eat-in or take home as well as homemade stocks and sauces. After the wondrous excitement and kid-in-a-candy-store feels, we managed to stop gawking at the food and sat down for a delicious meal.
It’s got a quirky and whimsical feel to the place with exposed brick walls, lots of hanging flowers, a wall of various rolling pins etc. Love the décor, it’s full of good vibes.
They make a good coffee.
I had the sweetcorn fritters which were tasty and moist with crisp pan-fried edges. It was topped with guacamole, grilled bacon, some peppery watercress and a perfectly poached egg. The generous smear of spicy tomato kasundi gave each bite an intense punch of flavour.
My friend opted for the eggs on toast (a classic) but with an addition of roasted mushrooms and hashbrowns (well-played). Sometimes you feel like a good traditional breakfast and this is a good place for that because the ingredients are quality, which makes even a simple brekky pretty fantastic. The roasted mushrooms were juicy and full of flavour and the hashbrowns could do no wrong, they were crunchy and fluffy in the middle.
