Looking for brunch in the city? Look no further, Ten Square café have taken over the space on Hardware lane where Hardware Societe used to reside and they’ve made it their own. The food speaks for itself with its colourful presentation and inspiring flavours.
The braised mushroom is a winter warmer. That fluffy polenta with slow braised mushrooms warms your heart. The artichoke crisps add a bit of chew and crunch while the poached egg yolk when cut open, oozes over the dish like a velvety sauce. Comfort food at its best.
When the chilli and crab scramble hit our table you could smell the abundance of crab in the dish which was delightful. There was no skimming on the good stuff with a generous amount of crab cooked through the scramble and the hit of chilli was evident without blowing your head off.
Chicken and waffles is hard to go past especially when the chicken tenders have a good panko crunch and the waffles are made of jalapeno studded cornbread. It came with a pot of maple, an intense savoury bacon jam and pickled cauliflower to round it out.
For dessert we opted for the panna cotta which was a great choice. It was smooth and had the perfect wobble. The confit cumquats were beautifully sweet and soft with a subtle tartness and the salted oat crumb lessens the sweetness which I liked. The poached rhubarb was another sweet element restrained with tartness and the apricot puree kept it sweet. It was a lovely arrangement of fruits which complimented the silky panna cotta and salted crumb.
I heart Ten Square Cafe!
