They say bigger is better and if you have a hefty appetite you can be sure to find a satisfying meal at the Hof downtown. It’s a German restaurant located in the Docklands and is sister to the popular Hofbrauhaus in the city. Whether you want delicious German food (for example an epic 1.5kg roast pork knuckle) or top quality Bavarian beer, you’ve come to the right place.
Of course they do the traditional Bretzel. It’s freshly baked and served warm with a side of butter.
They do an awesome chicken schnitzel. It was simple and cooked to perfection. The chicken was moist and the light crunchy breaded coating was fantastic. It was served with a wedge of fresh lemon and herbed mayo. Thick cut potato chips and salad were the perfect sides.
When you see the waiters carrying around a mammoth plate causing you to stare and drool, you can’t help but order it too. Their famous 1.5kg roast pork knuckle is a must. Whether you’re really hungry (and I mean really) or your sharing it amongst friends, you will not be disappointed. The sound of breaking the crackling apart was an event in itself. It was served with a super creamy mash, sauerkraut to cut through the richness, a delicate pork jus and hot mustard.
They have desserts too and after our big mains we went with a smaller lighter dish to end on. We had the tonka bean creme brûlée which was served in a tea cup (so cute) with chocolate soil, mini marshmallows and vanilla ice-cream.
It’s a pretty large space so it’s good for groups, after work drinks or you can even organise a special occasion they do functions.
I heart The Hof Downtown!
