Oakleigh is the ‘little Greece’ of Melbourne and with all of the great sweets available The Oakleigh Doughnut Co is one that will keep you coming back. They have a variety of doughnuts so if you like your doughnuts fluffy, cakey, doughy, gluten free or even vegan, they have something delicious for you.
I love the Greek dessert galaktoboureko so I had to try the doughnut version. It was a soft doughy doughnut filled with smooth vanilla custard and topped with an icing dusted piece of filo pastry and cinnamon spiced sugar syrup. Did not disappoint.
The oreo crème had a lovey cream icing with lots of crushed oreo over the top on a fluffy high risen doughnut.
The birthday cake doughnut was more cakey as the name suggests. It was like a vanilla cake in the shape of a doughnut with swiss meringue buttercream and rainbow sprinkles on top.
Doughloumba was a reinvented classic touloumba recipe which was like a golden fried pastry soaked in sweet sugar syrup
We tried the gluten free doughnut which was tasty it was a baked brownie with white icing and peppermint butter cream.
They had a vegan strawberry doughnut so we had to try that one too and it was delicious. The lack of dairy didn’t compromise the flavour or texture of the doughnut at all. It had a lovely wistrawberry icing and rainbow sprinkles.
