Third wave café is serving up American BBQ in Port Melbourne. Think sticky, smokey, slow-cooked, meaty goodness served with some tasty sides and a variety of burgers. Then finish it off with a sweet dessert pie and call it day. Some would call it dude food but I just call it downright delicious.
For starters we had the oink balls, sticky chicken wings and bacon candy. The oink balls were juicy pork meatballs wrapped in streaky bacon, smoked and grilled. The spicy chicken wings were tender and had been marinated for 24hours which we ate with some of the sauces third wafe café make in-house. Their BBQ nector is sticky and sweet and can make any food ten times better. Loved it.
Nothing screams romance like a bacon candy rose. The texture of the bacon was kind of like jerky and had a sticky sweet, savoury maple chilli flavour.
The lamb and the chicken quesadillas were yum, both had super tender slow-cooked meat, asiago cheese, spring onions and BBQ sauce of course, topped with sour cream.
The slow cooked lamb shoulder is smoked for 6-8 hours using hickory wood, that’s some serious slow cooking. The meat melted in your mouth and was served with a vibrant salsa verde.
Ribs can sometimes be a bit of a messy occasion, but when they taste this good it’s best to just get down and dirty and deal with them sticky fingers later. These were the pork ribs covered in a spicy bbq and apple bourbon sauce.
The beef ribs were smoked using a special 9 spice dry rub and were served covered in a housemade spicy bbq sauce.
We had a range of sides to go with our meat fest. When you're eating BBQ’ed meats, mac and cheese is always a must. They even smoke the mac and cheese with hickory wood and add house smoked crispy bacon. We also had the crispy coleslaw, mushrooms and buttery cornbread.
The burgers were delicious. They were full of flavour and had juicy meat patties. They had generous toppings, quality sauces and the melted cheese was a sight for sore eyes.
Then onto dessert, we had a stack of pancakes drizzled with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and berries. They don’t go easy on the toppings.
And lastly we had an assortment of dessert pies. Key lime (an American classic), nutella and peanut butter (two amazing flavours in one) and pecan pie (my fave). All were super smooth and super indulgent.
There is lots of yum to be had at third wave café. Just make sure you arrive with an empty stomach.
I heart Third Wave Café!
