Toasta & co have recently opened their first store in West Melbourne which is the love child of two food trucks you know and love, toasta and von crumb. Von crumb make super crunchy crumbed schnitzel burgers in pretzel buns and the toasta food truck make cheese toasties. And not just any toasties, hands down the best toasties in Melbourne. They have a delicious oozy filling, crispy grilled cheese edges and a sprinkle of sea salt on top, which makes all the difference. Toastie perfection I say.
The Russell toastie was a flavour bomb. The combination of cheese, brussell sprouts and bacon was delicious. I certainly would have no problem eating all of my brussell sprouts if they were served this way.
The viet burger was a crunchy crumbed chicken schnitzel with Vietnamese flavours. It had pickled veg, hoisin mayo, mint & coriander. Perfect with some apple cider.
The Rami toastie was filled with gorgonzola, cheese blend, pastrami, caramilised onion and spinach. Again the combination was on point. This one had a really punchy salty edge that was delicious.
The crème de la crème burger was lovely it had a crispy crumbed chicken schnitzel with a creamy herbed cream cheese, pickled red onion, and peppery rocket.
The natty jean is a great veg option toastie with cheese, charred mixed vegetables, olives, capers and basil. Lots of tasty Mediterranean flavours.
The Mrs burger was a classic burger with chicken schnitzel, lettuce, tomato, caramalised onions and mayo. Yummy.
If you’re anything like me, then you like something sweet after your dinner. And sweet toasties was the perfect dessert to follow our savoury ones. We had the Ruby, which was a toastie filled with rhubarb and mascarpone, dusted with icing sugar. So good, it was sweet and tart, delish!
Another dessert was date night, which was all kinds of amazing. It was a sticky date bread and butter pudding with a rich bourbon sauce accompanied by a big scoop of vanilla ice-cream. It was so delicious and particularly perfect for a winter night, especially with a cup of hot mulled wine.
The pics in this post are of the minis from the launch, but at the store they serve full size savoury toasties and burgers. The mack daddy is probably my fave toastie filled with mac and cheese, pulled pork and caramelised onions. Oh yes.
Now that toasta & co have a home in West Melbourne, you know exactly when and where you can get your toastie fix.
I heart Toasta & co!
