Tom Phat has a new Spring menu and ordering a bunch of share plates is the way to go since you’re going to want to try everything. They have a focus on South East Asian flavours with some small plates to start with leading onto the larger plates.
In the hot weather you need cold refreshing drinks and these mint and lychee mocktails did the trick.
We started with some sticky chicken wings which were fried and had a sweet ginger and chilli caramel over the top. These made me very happy.
Then we had a soft bao filled with crispy pork belly and a pickled slaw. Lots of yum.
The eggplant was soft and charred with some sesame seeds sprinkled over the top.
The kung po cauliflower was awesome it had cashews sprinkled over with a sticky sweet glaze of hoisin sauce and sczechuan chilli.
The crying tiger was thinly sliced beef (cooked rare) and a mountain of green papaya salad which had thin sticks of papaya, fresh herbs and peanuts which was a good combination.
The Murtabak roti rolls were tasty. They kind of looked like big sausage rolls but the meat filling was beef rendang and the pastry was soft grilled roti.
They had some vegetarian dishes on the menu and the vegetarian curry and tempeh sticks were a big hit.
The baked fish was served in a banana leaf and when we opened it you could smell the aromatic fragrance of the red curry. It easily flaked apart when we cut into it and was tender and moist.
The Burmese chicken biryani was full of flavour. It had the spices and the sweetness and some cashews on top. Loved it.
The duck noodles were my favourite it had thick rice noodles with the tender duck leg on top covered in dark hoisin sauce with garlic and a touch of chilli. Delish.
I heart Tom Phat!
