More places should be serving things on sticks. It’s delicious, easy to eat and there’s just something fun and interactive about choosing your skewers, having them bbq’d to order and having a bunch of sauces to dip them in, changing the flavour profile of each bite. Uncle 8 has recently opened in QV and that's exactly what they're doing.
They have all the skewers on display and there are heaps to choose from. There’s a selection of different meats, vegetables, seafood, tofu, even offal. You just tick the ones you want on the ordering sheet and decide which sauces you want to accompany your skewers.
The sauces are from various Asian countries like Malaysian satay, Thai nam jim, Korean gochujang, Indonesian sambal etc. so you’re not limited to one specific cuisine. The sauce comes separate so you can mix and match the skewers and sauces and try different flavour combos.
The fried chicken drumettes which had a wispy crispy batter and was juicy in the middle. They came with sriracha mayo and fresh lime which elevated the flavour even more.
We tried the sambal chicken which was amazing. The juicy chicken was super spicy with an intense sambal flavour mixed with green beans which was delightful.
All the mains come with rice, a couple of yakitori skewers and spring rolls.
If you’re in the mood for a sweet and refreshing drink, the plum juice is a good one.
The lychee ribeena was awesome too.
And who can resist taking a photo with these gorgeous chicken cushions. Haha they were so cute!
I heart Uncle 8!
